This video show even in other countries digital media is very prevelant

Reboot Music Video

This is a music video with clips from a TV Show That used digital animation as early as 1994 Called Reboot. The show is set in a computer even before it was that well known, they used computer terminology regularly on the show. . Like the villains megabyte and hexadecimal were viruses and they annoying but comical Mike the TV bombarded the people of mainframe
(even the city has a computer name) with totally useless ads just like spam. They also had computer games which you saw from the other side that is the user was the bad guy.

No Media?

If there was no media, I think, in general, it would be an improvement. We would not have people constantly telling us what we have to look like, buy, wear, act like, and eat. I think in that regard to a lack of media pressure, it would be a good thing. However there are some bad things to having no media, like fewer people would know what other cultures were like. In fact , not only couldn't they communicate through things like computers and television, they probably wouldn't even want to travel so people would probably be a lot more bigoted.
However I don't think there are that many cultures without some sort of media. Even Communist Russia, Medieval Europe, Asia ( both Ancient and Modern), Ancient Greece and Egypt all had media; in fact even many tribes in the jungle had media even before communication with"civilized" cultures. Now digital media is the current division from the haves and have nots or even the "civilized" and "uncivilized" itself. In this day and age, words like underdeveloped sound negative even if the people are happy. We are trained to believe they are not. It might alter their whole way of life and they would have trouble adjusting to the new fast paced living.
Digital media however is very new but even at this stage we are now used to getting information quickly. In a way we are both spoiled and more informed. However some people are not even informed. Digital media has also had controversy over porn sites, although porn isn't necesssrily bad, there are many other things to do on the web as well. If this is the only thing it is used for, it is a bit of a waste. I enjoy the videos on youtube. the only thing I really don't like about youtube is that there are videos that cannot be played anymore because of some glitch with the web.

The Weird World of Digital Media

An online symposium at the University of New Mexico explored the following concerns about the impact of digital media on daily life:
1. Identity and Self-Image
2. Credibility and the reliability of information
3. Civic and Social Involvement
4. The Arts, creativity and design
5. Social Networking
6. Educational potentials and implications

All of these are important issues, but I'm most interested the issues of "credibility and reliability of information, civic and social involvement, and the arts, creativity and design.
how do we really know if we can trust any source of info not just the Internet.  The web is a bit unreliable because anyone can fake information even when it seem that everything is proven and genuine you can't tell for sure that it's the truth. There are always ways of checking the best is to go to every site and if they all seem consistent it's probably true however even that method isn't foolproof.

I like to see people getting involved in things like citizen participation in things like the Obama McCain Election and many people nowadays get political news from the web.  I have seen several ads for Obama since I'm on his side but just to be fair and balance things out I think I should see at least one Republican ad for McCain. I also remember seeing an add for voting which makes you think at first that it is for one of the parties; but it was a non partisan add for non voters to get them to vote.

I also like to see people illustrating interesting things on the Internet and making videos that express their creativity. It can be anything from a collage of pictures o footage of  a school play to a fully digital film. I love to see films by others on my computer in fact these late night computer sessions are usually because of distractions of that nature

Digital media 's effect on the daily life of  people talking on the Internet is a very comlpex question on the web searches I have found people wondering about America being incorrectly represented and us made to look bad although we may be just as bad I saw a sight about kids talking about the problems with spam on the Internet when you click there what will happen and Intolerance and exercising instead of just using computers and verification of information on the web. In this bizarre age where nothing is certain we can't rely on any sources for reliable information not just the Internet

Will digital media have a good tomorrow?

I found a lot of very interesting ideas about digital media from class members sites. For instance, someone was worried about what would happen if all this media suddenly disappears because of an energy crisis. On the other hand, somebody else wrote thinking about how it's hard for parents to regulate their kids anymore. Kids could be watching damaging things on the internet without their kids knowing anything about it. Sarah had a lot of youtube videos and one was about computer dating. One youtube had various people expressing their opinions on computer dating. This made me think that you might not have more luck than with actual dating, however it might work any worse, as well.
Another website reflected on digital media in the future that presented a rosy picture. This site suggested that all the TV networks might go all-digital, along with newspapers, books and magazines. The website suggested that this would make everything better, and it attacked the idea of censorship. However, I think some kinds of regulation are actually a positive idea, particularly controls over spam and viruses.

digital media and Me

I found the videos that Sarah had online fascinating. There was one about what computers would do in the future, which I don't know  if the energy supply will hold out this long. The one about online dating raised several valid questions. However I think online dating is not anymore likely to find a perfect partner with, however, I don't think it is that much less likely either. For instance what happens if one of the people was fourteen and said they were twenty; and the other was sixty but lied and said they were thirty.

I agree with most of what Alan said but there are millions of people in the world rarely or never use digital media also I think that even without digital media advertising would find a way.

While most people in this country do use digital media a lot I don't as much I don't use  facebook or texting.  I tend to only watch DVDs on TV and only use the Internet to look things up and I haven't done a blog until now.  Part of the reason is I don't to get too hooked on it in case it suddenly goes away.

Political cartoons of the Twenties and Thirties

This exhibit on the political cartoons of the late teens, twenties, and thirties was amazing. Cassel seemed to be on the money practically every time he did a political cartoon. He was pro democrat, pro Roosevelt, anti racist, anti Nazi and anti war; he really got nearly everything right in my opinion. His cartoons were a bit dark and shocking but they were usually on the money. There were a lot of cartoons about World War I, Prohibition, the Great Depression, and World War II.
It started with World War I drawings where he didn’t seem to feel that this war would end all wars. He talked about alcohol in the 1920s being prohibited, which just made the desire for alcohol more excessive. He had some cartoons about the Great Depression talking for instance about different types of itinerant homeless people. In his opinion, the worst of them were bums and the best of them were hobos. There was a display of code signs that hobos used in the 1930s, most of which I didn’t guess correctly. There were also a lot of political cartoons about the Hoover versus Roosevelt election.
He also had many political cartoons about World War II. For instance, there was a picture of Hitler as a school bully. And one about Germany being the greatest enemy with Italy and Japan as the two lesser of the three evils but still a threat. There were some that use Nazis as a recognizable threat to link up with something else. I will give one example. The DAR refused to have Marian Anderson, a black operatic contralto, sing at their hall because of her race. Cassel therefore compared the DAR to the Nazis. Eleanor Roosevelt, who was up till then a DAR member, resigned and allowed Marian Anderson to sing at the Lincoln Memorial, which was an even higher honor.
There was also a room decorated to look like a 1930s living room, complete with thirties radio, phone and record player. There was also a place where we could re-dress Uncle Sam in many ways to give America many images. For example, the farmers’ outfit and the gentlemen’s hat made him look like a gentleman farmer, and the white hat and suit made him look like a 20s tennis player but the green WWI soldiers’ costume combined with the Santa Claus hat made him look like the Grinch.
Finally, they had a teatime based on popular foods in the 1930s. They had Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, which were invented in 1932, and tea sandwiches, which were a popular snack in the 1930s. They had gingerbread, a popular desert in the 1930s, and mini hot dogs, also a popular snack in the thirties. They had a good sampling of period foods, but made a conscious decision to leave out Spam.

Effects of Digital Media

uses a good deal of digital media as well. This can be pretty annoying when I know that things are not supposed to go the way they are advertised, like collar boneless Digital Media is now available on my computer and TV; I like to do certain searches that you probably could not find out about were it not for digital media. Digital media also enables me to watch anything I want, thanks to DVDs; I don't have to watch the television which I don't like much of the shows anyway. E Mail with funny jokes and pictures uses digital media. Advertising almost invariably uses digital media. There however are many ads that i find annoying for example the women that somehow miraculously have no collar bones; the ads for kids toys that show them much bigger than they are, and doing things that that toy could never do; and the ads that somehow make using their product seem to be the only thing that is worthwhile. Ipods also have an effect on me especially when I am in a long car ride. Until recently if someone wanted to listen to music in the car, everybody had to listen to that same tune, but now if one person wants to listen to country western and the other person wants to listen to disco, they won't have an argument. Digital media is also affecting the election. Therefore if a politician makes a mistake it is repeated everywhere: Obama seems to keep his view basically consistent whereas McCain seems to be constantly contradicting what he said.

digital media othrs ideas

I noticed that everybody has concers about digita media one person said thta digital media is eveywhere and seemed to believe it was a good thing. His concern was about what might happen if this all dissapeares. Another person worried as to how you cannot regulate digital media when it comes to what your kids are exposed to, which I though was an impressive thought for someone my age. However no one talked about what would happen with digital media in third word countries which I thought was kind of interesting
I have seen digital media used by people to explain various ideas about what is important in society by a group of kids who were using it to inform people about exercising, prejudice and verification information on the Internet people can also make things for music like guitar hero and music videos  digital media can be frustrating because people can take things down on a website that you like to visit and you can't get them back. i am glad that digital media is out there because it can educate people but that education can be wrong or just something we don't want to hear.

the good the bad and the ugly of Digital media

Where do I begin? It is used everywhere I see, it's used a lot of times in Commercials and Movies making the effectts in fantasy horror and Sci Fi believalble. You an now do any kind of beat or machine you don't have to pay a man to get into a suit or puppeteer a puppet. And they can be anything from cute to badass. I however tend to prefer the way films were before digital media, they kind of lost an intangable quality, once digital media started that kind of ruined a lot of recent movies for me it's more about the effects now than the story. I think one the first and one of the worst in this genre was Godzilla.
If you do not have a computer you are considered an old fogy or a fuddy duddy even thogh some people actualy make a consious descision not to use digital media or it could be something they just can't afford. This says that society prides itself on moving forward for better or worse. It is mainly used by young people but many middle aged and even elderly people are using digital media too.
Digital Media is also used in a negative way by people who post spam, write viruses and perpitrate vandalism those are usually bored college students who can't think of anything else to do. Digital media has also made it harder to track a persons collection of porn because it's now on computors in several places athough this may not be bad according to you're beliefs.

There are many youtoube videos on the web in every genre imaginable usualy to share these with other people and sometimes for monitary gain. Digital Media is also used in computer pictures that people post on the web so that people can look at them and sometimes buy them.

It was a slow day I have not gotten much done but  I thought that the Mighty Gorga film in the top five Crappiest Monsters series would make a great moves for the people on Mystery Science Theater to make fun of it.  For those of you that don't know that's the show with the two robots and the Human watching the Movie and riffing on it. I can Just Imagine some of the wise cracks they could do I even wrote some imaginary host segments.

Weil Walsh art exhibit

Marianne Weil is a fascinating artist; she was trying to create art that is uniquely American. However she was doing that by drawing on Celtic, Japanese, African, Native American, Ancient Egyptian, Medieval European, and Prehistoric art, just to name a few. This is very like the Impressionist art which was trying to create something uniquely French; and also drew on multiple sources of almost every culture but France. It is very Post Post Post Modern Art. I didn’t start out liking it but I ended up really likng them after all. I found the use of symbols intriguing.

I thought the names for the Ann Walsh pictures were  also fascinating. Jump looked to me like kids playing. Tie reminded me of Choc.-Van.-Straw. Ice Cream. Spring kind of looked like leaves’ colors in spring. Stir also kind of looked like mint ice cream. Lead had a bright and sure quality about it; I was not sure whether lead should be prononced lead as in the metal or lead a in someone in charge.  Drawing one was probably named that because it was the only one that was painted on a canvas. These art pieces were bright and cheery and exciting without standing for anything specific. This proves modern art does not have to be dark, or scary, or bizarre, or even a little alarming to be exciting and thought provoking.

I found James Walsh’s pictures interesting too. They are acrylic paint jutting on a canvas. The Dark Fantastic seemed like a celebration of glorious nightlife. Yellow One the title could mean an Asian, a coward, or a bad tooth, but when I saw it, it was clear it was about the color yellow. Sweet Harry had a combination of calming colors I liked. Gradient had a very appealing feel to it.

All three sets touched me. They were very forgettable but beautiful at the same time. and they seemed to be from a draw your own conclusions school of modern art.

The effect of computers

http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/185.html

This shows how different effects can be done with digital media and how a mistake can actually turn out better than what the person is trying to do. The creater of Irregular webcomic uses a digital camera, photoshop, a web server, a computor, and programming language. It's amazing how much bigger the first computor in the 1940s was when you realise how much smaller computers are now but how much more they can do

Funny videos

This is a very funny pastiche of bad horror monster movies a lot of these monsters if they had had photoshop could have been made a lot less fake and more terrifying. 'Spoiler alert' they could have edited the man in the wetsuit out and made it really look like it was a jellyfish coming to get her.

I like this post because I like opera but I can never understand what they are really saying because I'm too lazy to learn another languge :) This is not just digital mediaa but digital media that uses digital media (note: the dancing bra)

What is digital media

Digital Media is art created on the computer, there are many degrees of digital media though one thing they have in common is they all use a computer. For example drawing a picture on a computer is less digital TO ME than altering a photograph because the computer does less of the execution in the first. The more important the role of the computer the more digital it is.

One advantage is you can do a wider rande of things and it takes less effort. One disadvantage for me of an increase in digital media though is that other art form like claymation for example decrease in use.
